ANG Statement Concerning Mahmoud Al-Sarsak And Other International Hunger Strikers « INDIĜENA GAZETARO REVUO
A Communiqué from the ANG Public Information Bureau: To the Peoples of the Fourth World To the Mass Media The Aboriginal News Group demands, in the name of social justice, that Palestinian citizen Mahmoud Al -Sarsak, who is today on his 91st day of a hunger strike and all other hunger-strikers wherever they are being detained internationally, be released from custody and given immediate and adequate medical/psychological treatment, competent legal representation and due international political acknowledgement of their respective colonialist situations. Palestinian Football player Mahmoud Al-Sarsak: a sports professional for the Palestinian National Team represents the centre of the struggle for Palestinian colonialisation, political prisoners and universal human rights. Mr. Al-Sarsak has been detained by the Israeli government for more three years, without charge or trial, after being apprehended at a West Bank checkpoint. No one knows why he was arrested, interrogated or why he is still being detained. In personal protest of his illegal detention and unjust deprivation of the most basic human rights, Mr. Al-Sarsak began a hunger strike on March 19th and has since lost more than 30 kgs in body weight. At 91 days, his medical situation remains extremely precarious and we demand that the international community do more than look the other way while another Palestinian risks his life in peaceful, non-violent protest in an effort defend his human rights.
